Refrigeration System on 41.9m ULT Tuna Longliner Vessel

  • This project involves refrigeration systems for 41.9-meter ULT tuna longliners commissioned by a major domestic enterprise. Designed for premium tuna fishing operations, the vessel integrates catch harvesting, ULT quick-freezing, and cold storage functions, fully meeting full-process fresh-locking preservation requirements for tuna during long-voyage under complex sea conditions. With an overall length of 41.9 m and molded breadth of 7.2m, the vessel balances high-efficiency fishing capacity with high-quality catch cold storage and transport performance.
To address the extreme operating conditions at sea, high salinity, high humidity, non-stop continuous operation, and precise ultra-low temperature control-combined with core process requirements for tuna: rapid crossing of the ice crystal zone, instant temperature reduction for fresh locking, and long-term constant-temperature storage, CB designed a dedicated ultra-low temperature refrigeration system for this vessel, consisting of:
* 3 sets of semi-hermetic two-stage screw refrigeration compressor unit.
* 2 sets of aluminum alloy shelf freezers, and a full suite of auxiliary supporting equipment.
* High-corrosion-resistant refrigeration coils are installed to withstand corrosive marine environments with high salinity and humidity. It ensures uniform, stable temperature distribution across the fish hold, fully satisfying the demands of quick-freezing and long-duration constant-temperature preservation for tuna fishing.

This ULT refrigeration system resolves industry pain points of traditional marine piston refrigeration systems, eliminating persistent drawbacks including cumbersome operation, frequent maintenance cycles, excessive spare part inventories, and high operation & maintenance costs.

After commissioning, the system enables independent, precise multi-stage temperature regulation for quick-freezing and cold storage, matching with preservation needs of tuna across different fishing phases. It drastically cuts energy consumption for onboard cold chain logistics and subsequent maintenance expenses.

The complete system aligns with the fishery industry’s development philosophy of low carbon, energy conservation, safety and high efficiency. It significantly upgrades the stability, safety and intelligence of the vessel’s refrigeration system, supporting enterprises strengthening core competitive advantages in premium offshore catch harvesting and storage & transport. This vessel type and its refrigeration system have become the standard configuration for ULT tuna longliners with large-scale application worldwide.
